The author is closely related to Barlow as it was his Mum’s Maiden name from her Dad James Barlow married to Ellen Walsh.
Barlow Hall is now a Golf House but in the past was a place of a Great Family going back generations. The Barlows were Catholic Recusants, meaning they practised Catholic Mass when it was banned by various Monarchs.
The Barlow Family were at home in Barlow Hall for 400 years, Margaret Chapman describes them as an eminent family who were intensely conservative; more than one of whose members sacrificed everything, even to life itself, for their faith.
